Brian Whitehouse spent his youth sailing the coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. His first professional adventure on the high seas came after graduation from university, when he became the oceanographer aboard coast guard ships sailing the Pacific Ocean. This lead to a PhD in oceanography, an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship, and an oceanographic development project in Jamaica.
While in Jamaica Dr. Whitehouse developed interests in the Caribbean Sea. His first use of spaceborne sensors to solve coastal habitat issues occurred during this period. This led to ten years with the Alliance for Marine Remote Sensing Association (AMRS). He left AMRS in 2001 to launch OEA Technologies, but not before expanding it to almost 1,000 members in 40 countries. This experience provided exceptional insight into advantages, disadvantages and interrelations between platforms and sensors that monitor the marine environment.
Presently, Dr. Whitehouse lives near Peggy’s Cove, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, where he continues to sense the sea around us.
