Marine Applications of HYMEX

As a component of its Hyperspectral Image Exploitation (HYMEX) technology demonstration project, Defence R&D Canada – Valcartier has retained OEA Technologies Incorporated to assist with activities pertaining to marine applications of hyperspectral sensors. The initiative was launched in Quebec City on 13 January and is scheduled to be completed within the fiscal year. Targeted activities encompass those pertaining to Canadian Forces requirements for rapid environmental assessment products.

HYMEX has the objective of demonstrating the military utility of space-based solar reflective hyperspectral imagery operating in the 0.4 to 2.5 micron range of the electromagnetic spectrum. In addition to their numerous, narrow spectral bands, such sensors are also known for their fine-scale spatial resolution.
