DRDC Valcartier is investigating military applications of solar-reflective (i.e. passive) spaceborne hyperspectral remote sensing, through a technology demonstration project entitled Hyperspectral Image Exploitation (HYMEX). Its primary focus is algorithm development and validation in support of Canadian Forces operations, with the most promising algorithms being integrated into the hyperspectral operational support tool (HOST). Presently, HYMEX is preparing for further development and validation work. In preparation for these forthcoming initiatives, this report assesses the application of HYMEX's marine products to the Canadian Forces Directorate of Meteorology and Oceanography (D Met Oc), and it distinguishes these applications from those of the Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE). Based on this analysis, the report outlines a strategy for field demonstration of the most promising marine military applications of hyperspectral data.
