OEA Technologies is the Canadian representative for CODAR SeaSonde HF radars. Three models are available to meet your specific needs, whether they be long range, coastal or ports & harbours. Additional technical information is available for those interested in the theory of HF radar.

LONG RANGE

CODAR long-range HF radars operate at 3-5 MHz out to approximately 200 km from shore. Range can be extended by using offshore buoys. These radars provide continuous surface current maps every hour and have an operator chosen range resolution of 6 - 12 km. By utilizing GPS synchronization, multiple CODAR transmit antennas may be used simultaneously at the same transmission frequency. Additional long range technical specifications.

COASTAL

CODAR HF radars designed for coastal applications operate at 12 - 25 MHz. They provide continuous surface current maps every hour, transmit out to 20-80 km from shore, cover areas up to 4,000 km , and provide typical range resolutions of 1 - 2 km. Additional coastal technical specifications.

PORTS AND HARBOURS

High resolution CODAR radars operate at 40-50 MHz, which is within the VHF range. They are specifically designed for near-shore, port and harbour surface current applications that require high spatial resolution. Typical range resolutions for these systems vary between 75 and 500 metres. They operate up to 10 km from shore. Additional ports and harbours technical specifications.
The finer the spatial resolution requirements the wider the required bandwidth. Frequency bandwidth can be a limiting factor in certain areas, however, high frequency CODAR radars have short ranges that minimize the likelihood of encountering interference from other sources.
