OEA designs a marine monitoring and forecasting system for the Eastern Caribbean

OEA Technologies Incorporated is pleased to announce delivery of its completion report to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). It pertains to the Development and Establishment of a Regional Marine Monitoring and Forecasting System for the OECS: Reducing the risks to human and natural assets resulting from climate change (RRACC). 

In fulfillment of this contract, OEA Technologies’ consulting team designed a regional marine monitoring and forecasting system that addresses identified needs of the six independent OECS countries of Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The system design is based upon a region-wide scoping exercise that assessed past, present and future initiatives, identified key marine monitoring and forecasting parameters, methods and technologies, and provided recommendations for a draft plan of action. Within the six OECS countries, emphasis was placed on meeting representatives of national meteorological offices, coastal management and marine environmental agencies, physical planning departments, disaster management agencies, port authorities, universities, coast guards, and fisheries departments. In addition to reviewing literature, documents and online information, within the OECS region OEA Technologies consulted with approximately 80 individuals representing 49 government departments, agencies, non-government organisations and academia; and as certain operations are coordinated regionally, OEA Technologies also consulted with representatives based in Barbados, Belize, Puerto Rico, St. Croix and the USA. In total, the consultation process involved more than 100 people and more than 65 organisations.
